Hotel development team sets standard for North Lakes

25 October 2010

The development team behind North Lakes’ planned 200 room Clarion Hotel has won an international award for its Mackay hotel.

The Port Binnli-owned, 4.5 star Clarion Hotel at the Mackay Marina beat 20 other properties to be voted the best Clarion in Australasia.

The Mackay Marina Clarion was given almost perfect score for cleanliness, quality and service by an anonymous Choice Hotels Australia judge who visited Mackay earlier this year.

Northeast Business Park spokesman Jeff Smith said the Mackay hotel had set a standard for North Lakes to follow.

“This award highlights the standard we will be seeking to achieve at North Lakes when that hotel opens for business in 2012,” he said.

Port Binnli is currently finalising detailed design for the 120 room, 12 storey hotel on a two hectare site on the corner of Memorial Drive and North Lakes Drive.

Moreton Bay Regional Council gave preliminary planning approval to the hotel, and an adjoining medical centre and 200 bed private hospital as part of a proposed health precinct last month.
