MEDIA RELEASE
UQ and QLD Museum tour site 12 May 2011 Northeast Business Park’s historic features were highlighted in a recent tour for Brisbane archeological students and experts. Consulting archaeologist Steve Chaddock hosted an exciting look at the site’s historic remains for University of Queensland and Queensland Museum representatives recently, as the site’s Queensland Heritage Register application is processed. Staff from Queensland Museum, University of Queensland's Archeological Services Unit, Caboolture Historical Village Curatorial volunteers and Moreton Bay Regional Council’s local historian toured the site in April. North East Business Park CEO Jeff Smith said an Archaeological Management Plan for the project outlined strong potential for historic artifacts, which could be added to the Queensland Museum collection. “We’re excited to host this special group because valuable ‘in the field’ experience will be available for UQ archaeology students if we undertake a full archaeological investigation,” Mr Smith said. “It’s a great opportunity for those who attended to see first-hand the scale and historic significance of the site.” Mr Smith hopes these groups will play a part in the long term preservation of the heritage features after the site is added to the state heritage register.- Ends-
