Choosing a Home Design

Home Design

When you’re investing in a new home, you need to choose an exterior you love both now and one which will also stand the test of time. While many people building a brand-new home want an on-trend façade (the front of your home), you also don’t want the design details to fall out of style within the next few years or even more quickly. This takes a delicate balance of exterior design trends blended with timelessness and it is something at which our Display Village Builders excel.

Bright and Breezy

Home Design

Trending house designs for 2021 indicate that bright and airy interiors are coming into vogue, so it only makes sense that adding extra exterior windows is on-trend too. Australian home builders’ designs are already created with lifestyle and comfort in our warmer climate in mind, so in Australia this bright and airy trend translates into indoor/ outdoor living spaces where entertaining and making the most of light and breezes are factored in. Many of the Display Homes at North Harbour have stunning alfresco areas which you can view on our website here.

With conditions in 2020 meaning we spent more time in our homes and gardens than ever before, we predict that 2021 trends will reflect this lifestyle change.

Pergolas

An Aussie favourite exterior home design trend which is back for 2021 is the pergola. When paired with some beautiful greenery and blooms incorporating leafy shade and climbing plants, a pergola will not only provide covering for shade but takes your garden design up a notch. You can view a front pergola on the façade and an alfresco pergola in the garden of Coral Homes’ Hamptons Style Lisbon 31 at North Harbour. Again, pergolas add to the liveability of your home, allowing shady spots within the garden to transform your living space and offer the perfect location for a stay-cation! You can even add a spa, daybed, outdoor bar and BBQ to your pergola to make your home even more delightful.

Creamy White Paint

Home Design

The right shade of white paint will never go out of style. The number of shades of white available may astound you, but if you find the right shade, that works with your fixed elements, white exterior paint is timeless and classic and bang on trend for 2021. White also reflects the sun so is a great colour choice in Australia and particularly the warm climes of Queensland. Homes by CMA at North Harbour have made stunning use of the white shades colour palette in their two homes in our Display Village, click here for walkthroughs and more information.

Architectural Doors

Leading exterior designers are going on record to say that your front door should be the focal point of the façade of your home. In 2021, neutral-coloured doors in a wood tone with unique architectural designs are the ones to watch out for. Designers also predict that homeowners will be opting for wider doors and large sidelights. You can see some fabulous front doors in our 29 home Display Village at North Harbour. Bang on trend and stunning to look at, definitely a statement feature for any façade.

Swapping Curved Lines for Straight

2021 is the year of straight lines. Arched windows certainly had their time in the 90s and 2000s, and they still can look great on certain homes. However, straight-line windows can instantly give your design an on-trend look and modernize it enough to take it into the future and keep it there.

Natural Wood Accents

In 2021, natural colours and wood accents are making a comeback. So, if you’re wanting to try one trend that’s likely here to stay, we recommend finding a place on your home’s exterior to put some wood (or composite type for less maintenance). Whether it’s your front door, fence, decorations, the aforementioned pergola or some on trend furniture, find a place and embrace the wood trend.

Dark Colours

Home Design

In the last couple of years, we have seen an upswing in darker paint for home interiors as well as black fixtures and fittings in kitchens and bathrooms. And we can see why! Dark paint is dramatic and eye-catching on exteriors, particularly paired with white as a main colour. Try black window frames and accents to make your house design balanced between bang on trend and effortlessly classic.
